Job Description

As the Capital Markets Lead at Umba, you will spearhead our efforts to raise equity and debt, playing a critical role in driving the financial growth and stability of our digital banking operations in Kenya and Nigeria. You will develop and execute comprehensive capital raising strategies, engage with potential investors, and manage all aspects of investor relations. Your expertise in financial analysis, market intelligence, and strategic planning will be essential in positioning Umba as a leading player in the fintech industry. This role requires a dynamic leader with a proven track record in capital markets, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

Capital Raising:

• Lead and manage the equity and debt fundraising efforts for Umba.

• Develop and execute a comprehensive capital raising strategy, including identifying and targeting potential investors.

Investor Relations:

• Manage capital raising data rooms, including file and contact management.

• Prepare and deliver investor communications, including pitch decks, quarterly reports, notifications, and responses to inquiries.

• Record and distribute business pitches using updated materials.

• Maintain investor information, meeting notes, and documentation within internal CRM databases and investor portals.

• Monitor databases and conduct research to develop and maintain investor and market intelligence.

Financial Analysis:

• Create detailed financial analyses, including cash flow projections and fund-level calculations.

• Work with the Finance team to ensure accurate and compelling financial data presentation.

Market and Competitive Analysis:

• Analyze qualitative, quantitative, and industry competitive landscape information to inform strategic decisions and investor materials.

Marketing and Presentation Materials:

• Oversee the preparation, proofreading, and formatting of marketing materials, offering memorandums, and flash reports.

• Work with third-party service providers, including legal counsel and placement agents, to execute capital raising activities.

Strategic Planning:

• Develop a plan to build and maintain relationships with current and potential investors.

• Create and implement strategies to reach fundraising targets and support the long-term financial health of Umba.

Qualifications:

• Proven track record in raising equity and debt for financial institutions, preferably within the fintech or digital banking sectors.

• Strong financial modeling and analysis skills.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

• Experience working with CRM systems and investor databases.

• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

• Strong project management skills and attention to detail.

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA) preferred.
